How to qualify for a Retired Person’s Visa for South Africa?
Foreigners of all ages who have the financial resources to retire in South Africa are eligible for a South African retirement visa. The holders of this visa may reside in South Africa on a seasonal or continuous basis.
The following requirements apply:
- A monthly income from abroad of at least R 37,000 from a pension, an irrevocable annuity or retirement account; or
- “Combined assets” (no minimum value) realising a monthly income of R 37,000.
The applicant must have a monthly income of R37 000 to be eligible for a Temporary Retired Person’s Visa. This sum can be made up of pension income, investment interest, and rental income.
Alternatively, your cash or a combination of assets must generate the equivalent amount per month. While the financial requirements must be certified by a chartered accountant.
Length of stay on a Retired Person’s Visa
The retirement visa is issued for a period of up to 4 years. You will be able to extend for an additional 4 years, from within South Africa
Spouses and dependents
Your Spouse and dependent children can also apply for an accompanying spouse or minor visa. When minor children (under 18 years old) are also included, we advise that you show an additional amount of R8 500 per month per dependent child.
